"Africa is a land of dreams and memory. It is in every Black person's blood, no matter where they live or what they do."
- Maya Angelou

The hallmark of The Sawubona Project is our Bridge trip.

We’re BEYOND excited to host our 2025 Bridge IN South Africa!

Explore the beauty of African countries through our coordinated trips

Bridges are similar to missions trips with a few key distinctions. Traditionally “missions” trips are focused on opportunities to teach and give to others in need. While these are certainly important aspects, Bridges are intentionally designed as bi-directional opportunities to both teach and to learn, both give and receive. Often, missions trips risk a one-sided dynamic and limit opportunities for the fullness of relationship and interconnectedness with our brothers and sisters abroad.

Join us in celebrating the diverse identities of individuals and communities through meaningful interactions.

Bridges are not limited to physical and/or tangible exchanges, but also invite spiritual and emotional exchange as well – not making others better but rather becoming better together!

While trips are not intended to be exclusive, they are specifically designed for individuals of African descent, namely African-Americans, to (re)connect with African heritage. Participants should be aware that this cultural (re)connection is a primary focus of the exchange process.

The community/group meetings during the trip will include multiple days with various opportunities to share/serve and learn.

Potential exchange experiences may include but are not limited to:
Career Presentations
Skill-sharing
Topic Discussions
Meal-shares
Artistic Expressions
